Operational Warfare and the Revolutionary Nature of Interwar Period Essay
Operational Warfare and the Revolutionary Nature of Interwar Period - Essay Example It is evidently clear from the discussion that operational warfare is the term derived from Russia during 18th and 19th centuries. Operational warfare is a concept based on the military theory, which suggests a norm towards the behavior and trends in the military affairs. It was developed during the period of mechanization of armed forces. It signifies coordination of different level of command from the small level of action to a higher level. The operational level has gradually changed in case of size and objectives of armies. The operational level formation was not powerful in the post-cold war era, but during the cold war and the Second World War, the operational-level formation was highly powerful. In his seminal book, The Framework of Operational Warfare Clayton R. Newell elaborates on the three perspectives of wars- tactical, operational and strategic perspectives. The activities of war change according to how it is viewed. One can understand the war by analyzing these three pe rspectives. Among these three, operational perspective is the newest which is associated with land warfare. As Newell rightly observes, ââ¬Å"even though the origins of the operational perspective can be traced back to the eighteenth century, it remains a new idea in warfare when compared to the hundreds of years of warfare which have been studied from only the two perspectives of strategy and tacticsâ⬠. It can thus be concluded that the operational warfare was an innovative mode of waging wars and it has immensely contributed to the strategic and operational formation of future wars.

Newark (Create one thats suitable) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Newark (Create one thats suitable) - Essay Example Notable contributors of the slow but steady recovery of Newark include the establishment of the New Jersey Performing Centre (NJPAC) in the 1990ââ¬â¢s and the recent renovations of the Hahne and Company building in downtown Newark. In the late 1920s, many skyscrapers were built in Newark illustrating how the city was growing at a high rate. The cityââ¬â¢s population increased rapidly with most people inhabiting most parts of the city and the neighbourhoods. In 1938, the cityââ¬â¢s budgets fell from $57.8 million to $45 million in 1944 indicating a small and slow recovery from the 1930ââ¬â¢s Great depression. Newarksââ¬â¢ decline was attributed to the wave that drove people to build massive housing and commercial projects. As a result, a lot of money was eliminated in circulation particularly in Newarkââ¬â¢s activities. The Great Depression is believed to have caused manufacturers to leave the city with the jobs. Statistics show in the 1950ââ¬â¢s the white population declined with high margins while the black population increased rapidly until 1967. It has been found out the white investors left the cityââ¬â¢s commercial buildings and left the African Americans struggling with the substandard housing conditions, unemployment and poverty. The sharp decrease in industrial jobs caused the increased poverty rates in 1940s and 1950s. Crime and violence increased in downtown Newark where murder, homicide, theft and rape cases were consistently reported to the Newark Police Department. The good Newarkââ¬â¢s image was destroyed with most curio shops, cafà © and art collectives being closed down during the post-World War II era. The Newark riots of 1967 caused significant decline in recovery of the Newark City in terms of economic growth, controlling crime and violence, as well as, the Cityââ¬â¢s image. In July 1967, a white police officer beat an African American citizen

HRM - exam preparation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
HRM - exam preparation - Essay Example How much of remuneration is to be paid (the absolute level) is important to the extent that it takes care of a personââ¬â¢s minimum needs. Fixing of a minimum wage by an employer or company, or legislating on minimum wages by the Government, therefore focuses on ââ¬Ëhow muchââ¬â¢. This ââ¬Ëhow muchââ¬â¢ depends on physical variables (what is needed to keep body and soul together) and cultural variables (what is perceived as ââ¬Ënecessaryââ¬â¢) (Here we may refer to the first two levels of Maslowââ¬â¢s Theory of the Hierarchy of Needs ââ¬â taking care of the physiological and safety needs. Beyond the level of the minimum wage to be paid, equity and fairness should play an important part in determining wages (the relative levels). Further, equity should be ensured without having to sacrifice the other objectives mentioned. Equity and fairness considerations in pay fixation take care of the social and esteem needs (Maslow) of an employee. Both internal and external equity principles (relative fairness of wages of workers in the same organisation, and outside the organisation) should be kept in mind while fixing pay. Rewards (compensation) are of two kinds ââ¬â direct and indirect. The direct reward is the salary; and indirect rewards are the benefits or perquisites (perks) that an employee gets. Benefits include company provided house, car, medical facilities, company paid holidays, company sponsored study courses and training and so on. Equity or fairness between one employee and another can be maintained by adjusting both the direct or indirect benefits. 1- Modification of input or output to match pay. A person who is underpaid would reduce work effort; a person who is overpaid may work more sincerely and for longer hours without further compensation. A worker may attempt to change the input/ output of others, by asking them to work/not work harder. 2- Workers may adjust

Wk 5 Global and US Legislative response to Human Trafficking Essay
Wk 5 Global and US Legislative response to Human Trafficking - Essay Example From this, it is a can be assumed that nearly every country is affected by trafficking, either as a nation of origin, transfer or terminus for victims (George, 2005). This paper will seek to discuss the global and US legislative responses to human trafficking. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) being a custodian of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and its Protocols helps countries in their struggles to execute the Trafficking in Persons Protocol. UNODC does not only assist countries in drafting legislations and creating comprehensive countywide anti-trafficking policies; but also help with resources to execute them (George, 2005). The Trafficking in Persons Protocol is aimed at providing consensus and consistencies globally on the problem of trafficking of persons. Domestic legislations should be adopted in accord with domestic legal systems in order to give end product to the concepts in the Protocol. Therefore, apart from criminalizing trafficking; efforts to commit trafficking offense, directing others to commit trafficking or participating in trafficking are also considered as criminal acts. In conclusion, it is important to note that the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 in the US has played a great role in fighting the vice of human trafficking. This is ascribed to the fact that it has three phases: prevention, protection, and prosecution (George, 2005). This implies that it prevents people from being trafficked, protect those found in transit, and prosecute trafficking

Homeschooling Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Homeschooling - Research Paper Example Home schooling program has been legal in the United States. Its rapid growth comes as a big surprise to educators both in public and private schools. An estimate from The National Center for Education Statistics of the US Dept. of Education sets it at 1.1 million in 2003 an increase from 850,000 in 1999 and 1.1 million in 2003. Parents cited many reasons favoring this system. But there are evidences that lead me to an argument that this program needs tighter regulation, either banned or to conclude that it is an educational neglect. If you are a parent, and convinced that home study program is right for your child, see the disadvantages first and weigh its consequences after. Disadvantages Personality change. Home schooling deprives the child of the opportunity of gaining social skills that could only be gained or developed when the child is with his/her peers. A child learns to interact with other students from all walks of life in a school environment, thus leading to growth and development. Studies of Scott, White et.al. supports my argument such that their Examination of Previously Homeschooled College Students with the Big Five Model of Personality showed that the unique socialization practices of homeschooled families may impact their childrenââ¬â¢s personality development. Communication. A regular school gives children a chance to work with other people, hear different opinions, values, and beliefs.
